Describe the location and your goals for your Parklet or Plaza.

The MOMS Club® of Los Feliz is excited to announce our intention to apply for a People St Parklet on Clarissa Avenue in the neighborhood of Los Feliz. The MOMS Club® is an international non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mission is to provide support for mothers and children. As a chapter, we seek to identify the needs of the Los Feliz community and address those needs through various service projects and initiatives which brings us to People St! Surprisingly, Los Feliz is underserved in its access to walkable, functional public spaces. This need is often overlooked due to our proximity to Griffith Park, which borders Los Feliz to the north, but due to geography is not easily accessible for many of Los Feliz’s residents. Within the 2.61 square miles of Los Feliz (among one of the highest population densities in Los Angeles, among the most ethnically diverse AND containing one of the highest percentages of residents aged 65 and older in the county) there are zero centrally-located, public parks or spaces. The community of Los Feliz is in critical need of such a space. We have identified an ideal site for a parklet conversion using two underutilized 15-minute meter spaces on Clarissa Avenue and Hillhurst Drive, directly adjacent to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. The site is centrally-located making it easily accessible for the entire neighborhood and surrounded by prime business, dining, and retail areas. The site was also chosen as the temporary location of a “pop-up parklet” in 2017 and the response from residents and local businesses was enthusiastic and overwhelmingly positive. Simply put, Los Feliz needs this parklet. We are confident that the Clarissa Avenue parklet would quickly serve to bring together and enhance the quality of life of our rich and diverse community members and jumpstart future similar projects.
