Describe the location and your goals for your Decorative Crosswalk. |
For 5 years, Art Share Los Angeles (“Art Share”) has worked to connect artists to public art opportunities in and around the Arts District (District 14). In doing this, we have built programs that not only support the livelihoods and career development of visual artists/muralists, but have placed dozens of recognizable works of art across our community that are now well-known attractions within the Arts District and the City of Los Angeles.
Art Share proposes to enhance the walkable art-ery extending out from the heart of the Arts District by placing a decorative crosswalk at the intersection of 4th Street and Merrick. Our goals for this project include: 1) Increase public awareness of and attraction to an existing safe pedestrian crosswalk within the arts district through the creation of an interactive work of public art; 2) Create a literal and figurative pathway that connects visitors to/residents of the broader Arts District community to community businesses, spaces, and institutions (e.g. CBRE Group, SCI-Arc, Art Share, Arts District Dog Park, etc.); and 3) Broaden Art Share’s community impact by augmenting the aesthetic of the existing and well-known Christina Angelina (aka Starfighter) mural located at 4th Street at Merrick (a mural commissioned by Art Share in 2018 during its “Above the Streets” event honoring Angelina for her commitment to the beautification of the urban landscape).
