Project Description

Describe the location and your goals for your Decorative Crosswalk. The intersections located on 1st between Virgil and Vermont has a high number of pedestrian traffic due to the number of schools located on the block. The Virgil Middle School is one of several schools located on this block, it is one of the oldest public school structures in East LA, dating back to 1914. Central City Value High School and an elementary school are also located on the city block, so there are well over 1,000 students, parents, and community members head to these places of learning, support, and inspiration using the crosswalks. It would be our intent and goal to create a crosswalk that would reflect the importance of positivity, especially in one's self. The metaphor or the message in the image would be to believe in yourself and to be proud of your progress. The sidewalk will be vibrant with color and pattern. Positive Affirmations will be peppered into the interwoven scene of all things beautiful in our communities and within ourselves.
