Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | On Tuesday, April 29th, there was a 2-alarm fire at 30 Blossom St. in Chelsea. My home is abutting the impacted garage. Thankfully, we sustained no fire damage, but we did sustain smoke damage and water damage, both of which needed to be remediated. Firefighters needed to enter my home, breaking down doors and drywall, to ensure fire did not spread to my structure. The firefighting effort involved using water to put out the fire, much of which flooded my basement more around 6 inches (photo provided). The sudden flooding caused both my main and backup sump pump to activate. My backup sump-pump is a BasePump, which relies on city water to pump water out (i.e., in the case of a power outage). Due to the flooding, the backup sump-pump consumed about 4.5k cubic feet in a 24-36 hour period before I was able to access our basement (our normal consumption is 300-400). The backup sump pump has since been disabled so it is no longer drawing water. Our water bill for the period from XXXXXX - XXXXX is $XXXXX. This represents a significant sum that would be challenging to pay. We are requesting either our water bill be adjusted or we be reimbursed for the 4.5k cubic feet of water and sewage charges sustained during this disaster. This was obviously water not utilized by us, and caused by a response to an emergency. Attaching the following: - Photo of flooding - Chelsea Fire Inspector Report |
