Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | I was driving from Rt. 16 Everett toward Logan Airport, taking the Second Street shortcut. My friend’s flight home to North Carolina had been canceled, so I was going to pick him up before work. It was both raining and snowing heavily. It was somewhere between 11:45 and 12:30. As I was driving down Second Street, all of a sudden I felt the front right and then the back right tires of my car dip down and bang loudly. It was so loud, I pulled off to the side, just before the “Welcome to Chelsea” sign to check the tires. Both were visibly deflated. Had it been one tire, I could have changed it no problem, but it was both tires on the right side. I had no choice but to call AAA and request that they tow the car to Pep Boys back on Rt. 16. As the driver loaded the car onto the flatbed, I made note of the fact that 4 other cars had pulled over around me, having hit the same spot, and put on their hazard lights. Once at Pep Boys, I called my friend and told him to get an uber. And then I called my job and told them I had no choice but to call out. I spoke with the attendant at Pep Boys about what the least expensive method of fixing the car and getting out would be. I live week to week, I had a couple hundred dollars to my name. He said that because the car was an All-Wheel Drive drivetrain, it was necessary and also a policy that they needed to change out all 4 tires. He said that this was the least expensive option. He said labor would be free with 4 tires, but it would also require the Tire Alignment. I told them to do whatever was necessary and I would figure out how to pay for it. It was just short of $1,000. I used the only cash in my bank account - $250. My dad agreed to wire me $300. And then for the last $400, I literally applied for and got approved for a Pep Boys credit card with a credit limit of $400. My credit is not great either so I was very surprised that it worked. All in all, I found the means of paying for this, but am still struggling financially. Rent was late because of this ordeal, as are all of my bills, etc. I lost a days’s wages at work, and I was stuck at Pep Boys for no less than 7 hours while they worked. This pot hole was on the Everett side of the city line, without a doubt. I don’t know what to do because they denied the claim I submitted to them, under the reason that “ the pothole is in Chelsea”. It feels like nobody actually went and looked from the city or the insurance company. |
