Please explain the purpose of this event and why it is important for the City to co-sponsor this event The mission of Larchmont Charter School is to provide a socio-economically, culturally and racially diverse community of students with an exceptional public education. With participation from our entire community, we strive to instill in each student a dedication to improving the world we Inhabit. We prepare our students to be participants and leaders in a 21st-century community and a global economy by ensuring they have the opportunity to learn with and from a student population that mirrors our broader community. We do this by recruiting a diverse student population; teaching tolerance, positive interaction, and appreciation of various communities from an early age; and promoting the values of social justice and diversity. We proudly serve over 1700 students in grades TK-12 across four campuses in Los Angeles – one of the most diverse cities in the world. We are thrilled to plan our 16th World Fair on December 14, 2024, a signature school event. The World Fair is a true celebration of the diverse cultures and ethnicities at Larchmont Charter School. The day focuses on countries of origin, the sharing of native foods, drinks, games, traditional performances, the richness and pride of our community, the tenets of eco-literacy, the inter-connectedness of our natural world, and living in community with one another. This event is free and open to the entire Los Angeles community. No one is turned away from this event. Everyone is welcome and everyone can enjoy the celebration regardless of their means.
How does this event benefit the West Hollywood community and/or the City? Each year, Larchmont pays for this event with money raised within our school community. However, between drastically reduced funding from the government and costs which have grown exponentially, the event will be financially difficult to put on. In addition, 40% of our families qualify for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program, meaning no every family is able to donate to fundraising campaigns at the same level. We are reaching out to the great City of West Hollywood - an amazing partner of our school - with the hope of funding help. Co-sponsorship funding would help us offset the costs associated with equipment rentals, permits, staffing, cleaning, security, and cultural entertainment. Having this funding would allow us to give more to this event, our city, and our community. Your support would increase what we can give to neighborhood residents, giving them greater access to all of the World Fair offerings. We believe this celebration will showcase not only the beautiful diversity of our school but of Los Angeles, as well. Never has gathering to celebrate our diverse and rich cultures felt so important. We would be proud to have your support this year for this very special event. We are profoundly grateful for your consideration.
