| Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | I am writing to file a claim regarding damages to our property located at 18 4th St, Chelsea, MA 02150, caused by roadwork on 8/22/24. At approximately 4:30 PM, before the roadwork team left for the day, they buried the area that had been excavated. However, due to passing vehicles, the ground collapsed shortly afterward, resulting in a burst water pipe. Our basement was subsequently flooded again (the previous flood occurred on 7/10/24). Due to our previous experience with basement flooding, our staff were vigilant and immediately went downstairs to inspect. By 5:30 PM, water had started dripping from our basement electrical panel, and water had begun pooling on the floor. At 7:46 PM, the road outside further collapsed, prompting the arrival of the police. By 7:50 PM, we discovered severe water leakage in the storage area of the basement, causing damage to the walls. At approximately 8:30 PM, the roadwork crew turned off the main water supply. However, their repair was unsuccessful. When they left around 12:30 AM, they turned the water back on, and water started flooding into our basement again. The water eventually broke through the floor, creating a hole that grew larger as the night went on. The water continued to leak throughout the night. The next morning, we immediately went to Home Depot to purchase a dry vacuum machine to remove the water. Our staff carried over a ton of water from the basement to the upper floors for disposal. The water leakage began around 5:30 PM on 8/22/24 and was not fully addressed until Saturday, 8/24/24, at 8:00 AM. We have completed the initial cleanup, but we now require repairs to our electrical panel, flooring, and walls due to the extensive damage. |
