Describe your concern |
My name is Corinne Gail Cash. I purchased my home at 604 West Olive avenue Monrovia California back in August 2000. I live directly across the street from the Lucinda Garcia Park on Olive avenue here in Monrovia. I see a need for Speed humps on both sides of the park. Many people take their children to the park, or walk their dogs and enjoy the environment. There is an elementary school, Monroe at the end of our street. The high school is kitty corner and one block away. Many children use this part walking to and from school. The North side of the park on Olive gives high school students the chance to race to school and beat the traffic on Colorado. The South side of the park on Olive is not a through Street, so you either know where you're going or you're lost. If lost, the driver tends to be angry and speeds down the street. Another reason for this attempt to slow cars down is that there is limited parking on either side of the park. And patrons have to accommodate Thursdays and Fridays to park on the opposite side for the street sweeper. That potentially opens up for drivers not knowing what side of the street to drive or park on. On 8/16/2024, the street sweeper just raced down my street before slowly coming back to clean the street. Even he needs to be more aware. There have been 22 units + 6 units of new housing built at the end of the South side of olive and the North side of Walnut. There will be many more cars traveling down the side of the street Another point to be made is that we are now in the era of electric cars. They're powerful, silent and can be deadly..And while I'm talking about the South side, whoever thought up the exit of that street does not live here and does not understand how rude other drivers are by not allowing a vehicle to turn left to get onto Mayflower. And there is also a potential of a head on collision when approaching that end of the street, due to cars parking close to the end of Olive, causing the driver trying to exit to veer to the left side of the street, potentially meeting head on with another vehicle turning left onto Olive.
