Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | On approximately November 22, 2023, our basement experienced catastrophic flooding after a severe rainstorm. That part of the basement had never flooded before, and we were surprised that it happened at all and by the volume of water. In December, there was more heavy rain, and the flooding resumed. We called the Water Dept. multiple times, and it was discovered that a nearby storm drain was backed up because National Grid had left some sandbags or other obstruction in the storm drain system. Even after the sandbags were removed, however, the flooding continued. It was then discovered that the brickwork in the storm drain needed to be repointed. Based on the timing of the flooding in our basement, it is clear that it was related to the problems in the storm drain system. |
