I have a long career as a scenic and decorative artist for film and television, along with my own business doing murals for restaurants and private residences (I have included an example of a Chicago Bulls mural completed along with 5 other murals for a United Center restaurant). In recent years I worked with business associations and the City of Chicago to complete projects. A 100' mural for the 95th St. Farmer's Market was funded by the Chicago Architectural Biennial and a local business association. A three image, 3-month billboard project was funded by another business association and a grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. This billboard project involved creating paintings documenting seasonal changes in a nearby forest preserve, to work with the scale of the subsequent printed billboard.
I have worked consistently painting and exhibiting my fine art landscape paintings. The primary impetus for this work is my deep concern and reverence for the natural world, especially the forests and the wildlife it protects. I am including two design proposals here, based on my landscape painting. This work references the Midwestern landscape, and our deep and forgotten connections. While they are meant to beautify the spaces and even be incorporated into later landscape design, they are also a reminiscence of the natural spaces that existed there before our developments. I am now working to bring these concerns to the public by combining my commercial painting skills with my more narrative landscape ideas in the public art field.
