Design

Please Provide a 1-2 Paragraph Narrative Describing the Design Concept Richmond is full of open fields and rolling hills, but it's also full of forest and trees. With this in mind, my design incorporates any form on nature that reminds me of Richmond. On one side, there's the dark, but beautiful forest. It houses several creatures, but the one I think of most are always deer. In my design they're peaking out of the forest and the younger one has a monarch butterfly on its nose. Following that butterfly is a trail of Monarch butterflies moving across the image. These butterflies can be interpreted at migrating (which they do) or just flying across. They waving blue sky behind them signifies their free movement and keeps the background from being bland. When one following the butterflies it leads them out of the forest and into a rolling field. Dandelions spreading their seed are a common trait of Richmond for me, so I wanted to incorporate them. I used their seeds to float along with the butterfly trail. Found beside the dandelions (and right outside of the woods) are Violets. Violets are a common flower throughout all of Illinois and I've definitely witnessed their beauty along our rolling hills. Lastly, there are two other species within the image. Along the edge of the forest two cardinals can be seen on a tree branch. While cardinals are common in places like Richmond, I always got excited to see them when I was little, as if they were rare. I wanted to incorporate their bright color into the piece. The other species are the squirrels on the ground. They also are leading the viewer towards the open space. They were used as a way to fill the space and add more creatures that are associated with the Richmond Area.
