Briefly describe your audience(s) and mission as an artist or organization. This event aims to engage Chelsea residents who like working out and those who are new to formal fitness spaces such as crossfit. We wish to provide Chelsea's fitness fanatics a day to spice up their regular weekend routines while introducing or motivating people who have never been interested in fitness to make it a part of their lifestyle. Crossfit gyms are typically pricey, so most Chelsea families might be unable to afford them. Events like this have previously only been available to gym members, but we now wish to include the Chelsea community. This event thus strives to increase health equity by providing Chelsea residents free access to the CrossFit space and classes and equipping event participants with workout routines that can be done at home with little to no equipment.
Briefly describe the project that will take place. The event would take place on a Saturday in August from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (three hours). The first hour will consist of a brief welcome and introduction, during which participants will also enjoy light pre-workout snacks, grab swag bags, and warm-up exercises. Outdoor CrossFit and indoor Yoga workout sessions will take place simultaneously between 10 and 11 a.m., after which participants will enjoy a nutritious lunch and access to a free juice/smoothie bar.
Outline how you plan to market your project and the timeline you intend to follow. In addition, outline the audiences you intend to reach (be specific). You may attach an additional document if necessary. The doors to Carter Park Crossfit opened almost five years ago. Along with members of the Chelsea Fire and Police Departments and other local businesses and organizations, our CPC community has a network of crossfit enthusiasts. Our target audience for this event is forty Chelsea residents, 17 years and older. We aim to begin advertising this event in July through social media, flyers, and word-of-mouth. Participants will need to RSVP as space is limited.
What benefit(s) will this project bring to Chelsea and its residents? How do you expect to engage the community? Access to fitness facilities, lack of personal accountability, and financial constraints (such as gym subscriptions, fitness classes, etc.) are some of the obstacles that many Chelsea residents face while attempting to adopt and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Chelsea will gain from this initiative because not only will it provide people free access to fitness activities that would otherwise be costly, but it will also provide the opportunity to engage in fitness as a community. While health and fitness journeys are sometimes seen as individual pursuits, this event will emphasize and celebrate the positive influence that exercise can have on a community.
Are you partnering and/or collaborating with other organizations? If so, name the organization(s) and their role(s) in the project. This year's event will not have any sponsors nor will we collaborate with other organizations.
Acknowledgement of the Chelsea Heritage Celebrations Grant by the CCC is mandatory on all advertisement and promotions. How do you plan to accomplish this? Be specific. We will design a flyer for this event with the Chelsea Cultural Council as the primary sponsor. We hope to have a representative of the Chelsea Cultural Council speak at the opening remarks and will make announcements during the event to thank them for all of their assistance. Finally, the promotional water bottles we intend to give away must include the CCC logo.
How will you measure the success/impact of this project? After the event, attendees must fill out an anonymous survey. The survey will include questions about participants' happiness with the event as a whole, their preference for yoga over crossfit, and whether they would attend similar activities again.
How will the project be modified if the entire amount is not awarded? Be specific. If the total sum is not given, elements like the raffle and freebies (water bottles) will be eliminated. We are also ready to cut back on the food budget by serving light snacks and drinks rather than a full (healthy) lunch, asking fitness instructors to donate their time, and reducing the number of attendees.
