| Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | On Tuesday November 6th My car was parked at the public lot on Normandy Rd and Garfield Ave. I came out to my car at 10am to find it was towed. We went to Todisco Towing to retrieve my car and they informed us that it was towed for not having a Chelsea housing authority resident parking sticker. When we arrived home, we noticed that CHA had installed multiple yellow resident parking signs in the public lot, most likely the morning of 11/6/23. It should also be noted that where we parked there was no CHA parking sign, as shown in the pictures we attached. We then drove to city hall to speak with DPW about the CHA signs on the public lot. DPW informed us the city approved temporary CHA parking in the lot as Normandy Road was going to be under construction that Thursday 11/8. However, DPW did not approve CHA to use their own signage and that the normal DPW no parking signs should have been posted at least 48 hours in advance to warn of this temporary parking change. This is not only a requirement of the City / DPW but also a state law surrounding towing on public and private property. We are asking the city to reimburse us the cost of the towing, $182.66 as well as a full day compensation for having to miss a day of work, $269.00. We are also requesting that the city enforce the removal of the illegally postage signage. As this is a communal lot that we should have the right as Chelsea residents to use. |
