Please explain the purpose of this event and why it is important for the City to co-sponsor this event The Equality Fashion Week E3 Summit is focused on Education, Empowerment and Enrichment as an integral part of the week long festival focused on building community and visibility for LGBTQ+ people. This portion of the 4-day event will be bringing opportunities to learn and empower our LGBTQ+ community through topics on the following: 1. Financial wellness - LGBTQ+ folks tend to have very little access to wealth (particularly marginalized communities) and even when they do have jobs, do not know how to build it. 2. Group Panel on the intersectionality of Queer Culture and art, fashion, media and entertainment - how queers are often at the forefront of it and yet rarely given the proper credit and visibility we deserve. 3. Mental Health and Addiction Workshop via The Art of Yay with publicly Out and HIV+ Comedian and Educator Aidan Park who currently has a streaming special on Peacock. 4. Group Panel - The Entrepreneurship Journey - How to build your dream, thrive, uplift community while avoiding burnout. 5. Gender Exploration through Maskwork with Noga Wind of QueerUp Agency
How does this event benefit the West Hollywood community and/or the City? See answer above.... AND in addition to also, provides a SAFE space for the queer and allied community members to access resources and education without discrimination or misgendering. Sponsoring EFW and our events gives the City of Weho the opportunity to show it's allyship to the QTBIPOC community and larger multimedia industry by putting money where their mission is. Held in May this year during API Heritage Month and leading into Pride month, this year's EFW showcases and honors the communities that are most underrepresented and will highlight mostly QTBIPOC members of the community, as well as provide allies with how to be better allies as well. Everyone in the Weho community can benefit from this. In addition, EFW is the ONLY LGBTQ+ focused fashion week in the entire US left remaining. With the increase in hate and discrimination for our queer community, West Hollywood being a safe haven is the perfect partnership for this EFW event.
