Describe your concern |
Intersection of Mayflower Avenue/Diamond Street/W Evergreen Ave. The intersection is where Diamond Street merges with Evergreen and is bisected by Mayflower (four-way stop sign in the red square below). The red “circle” to the west of the intersection is a school bus drop-off area. Earlier this year, I put in a public records request to find out how many vehicles are pulled over for running the 4-way stop at the intersection but was told those records don’t exist. I know it’s a high “pull-over” intersection because I see police officers pulled over and watching for cars running the intersection. Folks west of Mayflower use Evergreen to walk to the Monrovia L Line Station. The intersection and school bus drop-off zone are within a half mile of the Monrovia Station, which should be considered for Vision Zero and first/last mile parameters. As you can tell, I’ve been trying to collect data and information to have a good case for upgrading the intersection. Additionally, this is the only “stop” between Huntington Drive and Duarte Road, which spans a length of 0.6 miles making Mayflower a huge barrier in crossing from west to east and vice versa. This intersection desperately needs some type of pedestrian safety identifiers (cross walk, painted lines on the street, high-visibility crosswalk signage, etc.) so people can safely cross the street. There have been quite a few occasions where I've seen young children running across the intersection after being dropped off by the school bus and I think something should change before an incident occurs.
