Please briefly describe your organization/group and its mission or purpose: Since festivals often organize around single identities, HOMEplxce endeavors to co-create and exhibit new works of art in a Pride Festival booth that is curated aesthetically, pedagogically, and energetically as co-healing respite for all our intersectional identities to feel welcomed and filled with pride like a “source of self-regard” a la Toni Morrison. Anchored in Los Angeles and virtually engaged globally, HOMEplxce mobilizes and sustains Survivors of childhood sexual assault as Liberation Arts Community Health Strategists to cultivate conditions for intergenerational self-determination by securing cooperatively owned and run work/home healing spaces across the Blxck, Queer Diaspora. Centering Healing-Justice Capacity-Building, we offer educational, business, and strategy consulting as Self-Determined Intergenerational Wealth Cultivation™ in the form of one-on-one consultations and retreats for healing artists, sole operating business owners, creative entrepreneurs as well as collective/teams transformation in the context of events, workshops, and course material via the HOMEplxce App. Centering embodied co-learning, collective self-healing, and creative innovation, HOMEplxce stewards a self-regard approach to job and business creation activated intuitively by desire, joy, and authenticity. Welcome to HOMEplxce, where we embody economic and transformative healing justice in action–and retreat.
Is your Organization/Group a 501c3? (It is not a requirement that your organization be a 501c3) No
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to LGBTQ Pride Growing up GenderQueer, Blxck, and Bible-Belted in the U.S. Midwest, lakhiyia, my name, means “home” in Haitian Creole and isiXhosa. It is as though my Granny's Granny, who was from Haiti, was whispering in my Dad's ear in the birthing center waiting room as he pieced letters together on a little sheet of yellow paper to arrive at my name spelling. Perhaps, they knew my version of humxn would need the reminder in my name that I am home. Long before receiving this oral herstory, I named my business HOMEplxce. My heart has been for people to feel at home in my presence and supported by my ways of being to show up in the fullness of their authenticity. To me, therein thrives our most uniquely powerful medicine capable of co-creating cultural conditions that insist on all of our aliveness. We are in the business of curating spaces in which we may each opt into our own self-healing power and amass the energetic hospitality needed to sustain the lives we consent to living. Such is the world I envision and the reality to which I trust each consultation, every training, and all HOMEplxce retreats move us closer. The HOMEplxce Pride Festival Booth will act as an intersectional oasis in which we heal, commune, and continue reclaiming our inherent enoughness.
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to West Hollywood HOMEplxce SibColLab Members live, work, play, and pray in West Hollywood. We also support an annual Black Lesbian United event in WeHo. Last but not least, I called West Hollywood home when I wrote and premiered, Sermon I Wish I'd Heard, which poetically bears witness to my journey towards self-love through spoken word, song, and movement–three friends that fed the indomitable spirit childhood required. It's a blossom that ultimately saves my life; and perhaps, lives now as a call home to remember that we each are our greatest medicine and there lives no savior outside of ourselves. This year marks the ten-year anniversary for the Sermon I Wish I'd Heard series and tour. In preparation for Pride month, we'll be hosting self-healing sundays to screen and co-create art to feature in the Pride Festival Booth, if chosen.
