| Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | On June 26th, 2022 while driving northeast along Spruce St at 7:53 pm below the speed limit at 18 mph, my vehicle hit an unmarked, unidentified section of road which had been cut out. There was a ~4 inch 90 degree lip in the road which had been left without adequate grading or ramp from the cut section of the road to the remaining portion of the road. This resulted in a massive impact to my car’s suspension which was the loudest I have ever experienced. This caused the front left spring of my suspension to completely fail and damage my front left tire sidewall. I had my car evaluated by my auto shop and he quoted me $2,229.75 in repairs to repair the left front spring, tire and shock (as well as the right side as they must be done in pairs). I have a video of the incident as well which I will happily provide if needed in addition to the detailed pictures I have attached here. My car has now been unusable for several weeks as I await the parts required for the repairs. This has been a very frustrating experience. I request the city to pay for the repairs required to my car resulting from an unnecessary road hazard left after incomplete work, with no grading, no protection, and no marking to warn drivers of the severe road hazard. I have never encountered a ~4 inch 90 degree lip on a public road in hundreds of thousands of miles of driving. This type of road condition causes extreme damage to vehicles and could have been avoided through simple grading with asphalt or metal plates. I contacted my lawyer and they suggested filing a claim directly with the city is the most straightforward course of action. I hope we are able to quickly resolve this issue as such a severe road hazard no doubt should be well indicated, marked, and appropriately covered to prevent extraordinary damage to vehicles driving well below the speed limit on the road. |
