Please briefly describe your organization/group and its mission or purpose: |
TurnOut's mission is to mobilize communities to power queer and trans movements. LGBTQ+ individuals often cannot rely on our biological families and mainstream institutions for support, and it is grassroots LGBTQ+ organizations that have stepped up to fill that gap. Since our launch, TurnOut has mobilized over 4,000 volunteers to support more than 100 LGBTQ+ nonprofits in the SF Bay Area. Our work is not only supporting local nonprofits but also making a major difference in the lives of the volunteers themselves. We hear from many volunteers how life-changing service is for them. We offer fully-supported volunteer programming to ensure that volunteers get the most out of service, and that partner nonprofits are supported by skilled and trained volunteers.
|
Is your Organization/Group a 501c3? (It is not a requirement that your organization be a 501c3) |
Yes
|
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to LGBTQ Pride |
We are a queer and trans organization that connects volunteers to LGBTQ volunteer opportunities, so all of our work is connected to the LGBTQ community. For Pride events in particular, we recruit, train, and manage volunteers for Los Angeles Pride, San Francisco Pride, and Oakland Pride. Pride celebrations are a huge part of our work!
|
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to West Hollywood |
In August of 2021, we launched a brand new chapter of TurnOut in Los Angeles County, supporting local LGBTQ+ and allied volunteers and the nonprofits they depend on. Since then we have had a presence at many social events in West Hollywood to recruit volunteers (such as Out Professionals Lounge), and have spoken at the City of WeHo’s Trans Advisory Board to begin collaboration with their work. We hope to continue to strengthen our relationship with the City of West Hollywood by recruiting residents to take action through volunteering, by supporting LGBTQ events in the neighborhood, and by supporting LGBTQ nonprofits and grassroots organizations doing work in the area.
