WeHo Pride 2022 - Community Group Application

Organization/Group Information

Organization/Group Name Leggy Riggs, pop-up Circus Cabaret
Applicant Name Elena Brocade
Applicant Title or Relationship to Organization/Group Producing Director
Applicant Email Address [email protected]
Applicant Phone Number +17738953998
Please briefly describe your organization/group and its mission or purpose: Leggy Riggs is a pop-up circus cabaret. Set in iconic and scenic locations, she reflects the diversity of Los Angeles and moves from city rooftops and mountain overlooks to decadent hotel lobbies, street festivals and desert getaways. Stylized in modern couture and the avant-garde, Leggy Riggs brings to the stage a cast of world class illusionists, burlesque dancers, drag queens, contortionists, object manipulators and aerial acrobats. From dinner theater to circus in the park - each Leggy Riggs experience collaborates with local artists and organizations to celebrate the already diverse and vibrant communities of Los Angeles. Artistic expression has the transformative capacity for resilience and healing. As artists, we commit to continuing education about the various issues that seek to divide us. We intentionally work to break apart “top down” mentality and re-imagine organizational structures. We pursue collaboration to ensure healthy and reflective relationships based in social justice, while creating experiences that embrace intersectionality and inclusion. We recognize the diversity of the individuals, families and communities we engage with, in terms of race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic status, immigration status and physical ability.
Is your Organization/Group a 501c3? (It is not a requirement that your organization be a 501c3) No
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to LGBTQ Pride While not all of our ensemble members directly identify as LGBTQ, we all actively work towards social justice and understand the Pride festival is a beacon for justice for all humanity - especially now with the national attacks on LGBTQ civil rights. Our members that do identify as LGBTQ have suffered greatly to speak their truths (Alex Lukinov is here on asylum to protect him from persecution from his home country of Russia).
Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to West Hollywood Our MC, drag queen, Cassandra Complex (Gregory Marcel) and Alex Lukinov both live in West Hollywood and Jesse Finkelstein works in West Hollywood and only just recently moved out of its bounds. Leggy Riggs produced its debut performance in Oct. 2021, with a grant in part from the City of West Hollywood. (I attached the WEHO Times review below).

WeHo Pride Integration

In what way is your organization/group seeking to integrate with WeHo Pride? Option 2: Request City funding for a separately produced event.

Option 2 - Separately Produced Event

Please describe you proposed event: I propose that Leggy Riggs produce it's show 3 times on Saturday June 4th, in West Hollywood Park. It will include our Leggy Riggs stage (portable aerial rig) with 25 tables and 100 chairs, and room for blanketed seating. As we set up the stage there will be a DJ, fire dancers (permit dependent), stilt walkers to encourage passersby to join the festivities. Our show would free to the public, with a matinee, mid-afternoon and evening showings. Leggy Riggs is a fully realized production with stage lighting, a sound system, backstage and tech crew. All of the equipment is self contained and runs off our noiseless solar power generator.
Will you be requesting supplemental funding from the City? Yes

Supplemental Funding

Please describe how you would use the supplemental funding for your event/activation: All funding with pay a living wage to our artists and tech crew, as well as, permitting and event insurance.

Agreement with the City of West Hollywood

Please note that, if selected, your organization may be required to provide insurance and enter into a written agreement with the City of West Hollywood. I agree
