Please briefly describe your organization/group and its mission or purpose: |
The core idea behind the USC Drug Use & Behavior (DUB) lab is that drug use is – and has been for millennia – part of normal human behavior. Counter to the largely negative depictions of drugs, drug use, and drug users found in the media, politics, and law enforcement, our work seeks to investigate both the positive and negative ways that drugs actually work in individuals and society.
DUB lab uses behavioral pharmacology, Ecological Momentary Assessment, and survey methods to focus on how drugs – including stimulants, cannabis, alcohol, and tobacco – function in social contexts, with an emphasis on how your friends and family influence which drugs you use, how much you use, whether or not you develop problematic use, and—if you do—whether or not you’ll be successful at quitting.
Our mission is to contribute to a scientifically grounded understanding of non-problematic drug use in order to inform more rational and just drug policies, reduce harm, and develop effective treatments for the minority of users who develop drug-related problems.

Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to LGBTQ Pride |
The USC Drug Use and Behavior Laboratory, along with USC POWER (Psychosocialbiology of Women Health & Emotion Research) laboratory, are currently seeking volunteers for our LGBTQ+ couples and smoking research study. We are looking for LGBTQ+ couples/smokers who are interested in quitting smoking. We want to further engage with the diverse LGBTQ+ communities. We also want to reach out to LGBTQ+ smokers who may benefit from participating in our study. The WeHo Pride event is a place to engage with the greater community. We will have information about our research study, staff ready to answer any questions, and different avenues to sign up for the study if anyone is interested in participating. The study is about investigating attempts to quit smoking in couples. We want to contribute to LGBTQ+ health and research.

Please briefly describe the Organization/Group's connection to West Hollywood |
The USC Drug Use and Behavior Laboratory would like to work with the city of West Hollywood and participate in this PRIDE event. This is an opportunity for us to participate in community engagement with the LGBTQ+ community of West Hollywood, and contribute to health and research with the LGBTQ+ community in mind.

WeHo Pride Integration
In what way is your organization/group seeking to integrate with WeHo Pride? |
Option 1: Activate a designated space in the footprint of a WeHo Pride event held in the vicinity of West Hollywood Park and San Vicente Blvd. during the weekend of June 3-5, 2022
|
Option 1 - Space within WeHo Pride Footprint
Please describe you proposed programming/activity within the WeHo Pride footprint: |
We will have information and flyers about our research study to distribute. We would also have tablets to have people signed up to get more information about our study. Staff members and volunteers to answer any questions. We would have at least a table (6ft) and two chairs to distribute our information form and flyers. The study is remote, free and compensation is available for eligible participants who complete the study. We want LGBTQ+ smokers in West Hollywood to know about our study and help us contribute to research that may lead to better treatment efforts for smoking couples that want to quit.

Will your organization/group be requesting supplemental funding from the City for programming and activities as a part of your footprint in WeHo Pride? |
