Please Describe the Incident Thoroughly | Upon arriving at home, I noticed that my windshield was smashed. I then went over to inspect the area and damage as well as a possible cause. Upon investigation I noticed broken branches right next to my damage vehicle. And the size of said broken branches coincide with the size of the damage on the windshield in the hood of my vehicle. The city has been aware of these old dilapidated trees and they have been out there many a time pruning and cutting rotten branches. Other neighbors who parked there as well as myself made the city of Chelsea aware of this issue several times, including a few years ago with the same exact issue ( my older vehicle had also been damaged by falling branches ). The damage that was impacted on my current vehicle has a large in point a large impact point accompanied by spidering breakage on the front wheels windshield more towards the passenger side and there is an impact size coinciding with the damage and dent on the hood of my vehicle. The broken branches were next to and in front of the vehicle on the ground, and also looked like somebody had moved other branches to get them out of the way because of the size. I took pictures of the damage, branches and surrounding area before moving my vehicle. Since pictures were taken at dusk I have also taken more pictures in the morning. I will try to attach these pictures to this report/email if possible. Otherwise, I can furbish them on request. It happened early morning hours on Friday, February 18, 2022 ; there was a rather large windstorm that morning, and was noticed upon arrival when I got home from work at approximately 6 PM since I use another vehicle for work. This is a city city matter due to the point tht the said tree involved is located on city property, therefore a city tree. Had someone been injured during this incident, the injury sustained could have been detrimental, seeing that the impact from said branch pierced right through the windshield leaving glass debris on the dashboard. Other trees on our street have been removed over the years due to safety precautions. It’s a deep concern why these trees that are even worse condition have not been removed. Please reply as soon as possible as we feel it is appropriate for the damages of my vehicle to be covered and paid for by the city. I will appreciate a quick response in fast action for resolve this problem as well as cooperation regarding repairs to my vehicle. Thank you for your time with regards John R. Phillips III |
